the effect of regular physical activity at home on patients' physical status after coronary artery bypasses surgery     hemmati maslakpak m [1] *, amirian z [2] , khalkhali hr [3] , salehi sh [4]     received: 5 aug, 2011 accepted: 3 nov, 2011     abstract   background & aims : coronary artery disease causes mortality and disability of large part of a country's productive people. oxygen recovery following coronary artery bypass grafting (cabg) is not sufficient to prevent unpleasant effects, therefore regular physical activity is necessary to achieve to the functional benefits of cabg. this study aimed to determine the effect of regular physical activity at home on the physical status of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery.   materials & methods : this experimental study carried out on patients under coronary artery bypasses surgery in urmia. 56 samples were selected randomly and then allocated in two intervention and control groups. the data were gathered with standard physical status questionnaire. for intervention group practical and theoretical education about exercise was given. the program was continued through home visits and telephone follow-up consultation. data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical testes.   result : the promotion of physical status among intervention group after performance of regular physical activity at home was obvious (p= 0.001). the comparison of two groups showed significant difference in physical status between the intervention and the control groups (p= 0.001).   conclusion: regular physical activity at home has important effects on patients' physical status promotion after coronary artery bypasses surgery.   keywords: regular physical activity, physical status , coronary artery bypass     address: nursing and midwifery faculty, urmia university of medical sciences, urmia, iran   tel: (+98) 441 2754961   email : [email protected]   [1] assistant professor of nursing, nursing and midwifery faculty, urmia university of medical sciences, urmia, iran (corresponding author (   [2] nursing msc student, urmia university of medical sciences, urmia, iran   [3] phd of biostatistics, urmia university of medical sciences, urmia, iran   [4] specialist in heart surgery, urmia university of medical sciences, urmia, iran
